The 17th EPA European Congress of Psychiatry is entitled “New Diagnostic Approaches in Psychiatry: Relevance for Research and Practice in Europe” .
The EPA 2009 European Congress of Psychiatry is organized by the European Psychiatric Association (EPA), formerly known as the Association of European Psychiatrists (AEP), the largest international association of psychiatrists in Europe with a membership base from more than 57 countries.
EPA LISBON 2009 brings together a blend of psychiatrists from all specialties with lectures and symposia focusing on different psychiatry and neuropsychiatry fields.
The Scientific Programme will consist of the following:
The state-of-the-art lectures - they will provide a complete update on some significant aspects of current clinical treatments in European psychiatry. The state-of-the-art lectures will be delivered by top European or worldwide experts;
The plenary lectures - will have a strong scientific focus. They will be mainly theoretical and research-oriented. These lectures will be delivered by leading psychiatrists, basic scientists and other mental health professionals invited by
the Scientific Committee. They will cover the major topics of the Congress theme.
The Core Symposia - will focus on clinical issues and will constitute the central element of the Congress.
The Core Workshops - will be devoted to a specific topic and will bring together experts in this field for an intensive discussion.
The Meet the Expert Sessions - are designed to primarily target psychiatrists of the younger generation. In these sessions, leading figures of European Psychiatry will interact freely with a group of about 100 psychiatrists.
Pro & Con Debates - will focus on controversial issues in mental health care.
Posters – the authors will present their new research findings or important ongoing research as posters related to one of the 29 given topics.
Satellite Symposia - will be organised by pharmaceutical companies in consultation with the Scientific Committee.

*Refers to non-tenured junior scientists. Registration form must be accompanied
by a letter from their head of department confirming their status. The letter should
be on the department letterhead and addressed to the registration department of
the Congress.
**Criteria for Young Psychiatrist are under 40's at the Congress date OR less than 5 years of clinical practice after speciality. Please send a certificate of exams+ a copy of ID with birth date OR enclose a copy of a letter/certificate from institution confirming the < 5 years with your registration form.
